WRITER
About
I'm a writer of fiction and nonfiction whose work has appeared in several publications. I grew up the fifth of six children in Iowa. Wanting to experience life in a big city, I attended Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO and received my BA in English and Spanish. Wanting to see Boston ever since reading Make Way for Ducklings, I attended Boston College and received my MA in English Literature. Wanting to escape winter and to do what I love (writing), I attended Florida International University and received my MFA in Creative Writing. I spent several years teaching English Language Learners, including the children of immigrant meatpacking workers in Iowa and university students in Mexico, and high school and university writing and literature students. I'm married to a Nigerian prince (technically true, just ask my father-in-law who'll regale you with stories of the royalty of the village of Ijebu Ife) who humbly takes out the trash, shuttles kids to soccer and dance, and keeps me supplied with chocolate. We live with our three remarkable (and never boring and often exhausting) children in Boston.
